顏真卿，字清臣，京兆長安人。博學，工辭章，事親孝。開元中舉進士，又擢制科，調醴泉尉。累遷殿中侍御史，忤宰相楊國忠，出爲平原太守。安祿山反，河朔盡陷，獨平原城守具備，使司兵參軍李平馳奏，明皇大喜，即拜戶部侍郎。肅宗即位靈武，真卿數遣使以蠟丸裹書陳事，拜工部尚書，兼御史大夫，爲河北招討採訪處置使。至德二年，朝于鳳翔，授憲部尚書，遷御史大夫。軍國之事，知無不言，爲宰相所忌，出爲馮翊太守，改蒲州刺史。御史唐旻誣劾，貶饒州刺史。旋拜浙西節度使，召入爲刑部侍郎，李輔國銜之，貶蓬州長史。代宗立，起爲戶部侍郎，除荆南節度使。未行，改尚書右丞，尋除檢校刑部尚書，兼御史大夫，封魯國公。與元載不合，貶峽州別駕，改吉州司馬，遷撫湖二州刺史。載誅，擢刑部尚書，進吏部。盧杞當國，益惡之，改太子太師。李希烈陷汝州，杞奏遣真卿往諭，拘脋累歲，不屈而死。贈司徒，謚文忠。真卿立朝正色，剛而有禮，非公言直道，不萌於心，天下不以姓名稱，而獨曰魯公。善正草書，筆力遒婉，世寶傳之。詩一卷。
