虞世南，字伯施，餘姚人。沈靜寡欲，精思讀書，至累旬不盥櫛，文章婉縟，見稱於僕射徐陵，由是有名。在隋，官秘書郎，十年不徙。入唐，爲秦府記室參軍，遷太子中舍人。太宗踐祚，歷弘文館學士、秘書監，卒諡文懿。太宗稱其德行、忠直、博學、文詞、書翰爲五絕。手詔魏王泰曰：“世南當代名臣，人倫準的，今其云亡，石渠、東觀中無復人矣。”集三十卷，今編詩一卷。
