王梵志，衛州黎陽人。編詩一卷，計一百十一首。 王梵志，衛州黎陽人也。去黎陽城東十五里，有王德祖者，當隋文帝時，家有林擒樹，生癭，大如斗。經三年，其癭朽爛。德祖見之，乃剖（撤）其皮，遂見一孩兒抱胎而出。德祖收養之，至七歲，能語，問曰：「誰人育我？復何姓名？」德祖具以實語之。（二字作告）因名曰：「林木而生曰梵天。」後改曰梵志，[曰]：「王家育我，（我家長育）可姓王也。」梵志乃作詩示（諷）人，甚有義志（旨），蓋菩薩示化也。（《太平廣記》八二，參以《永樂大典》六八三八[王]字韻引《桂苑業談·史遺》。）○《雲谿友議》下《蜀僧喻》云：「或有愚士昧學之流，欲其開悟，別吟以王梵志詩。梵志者，生於西域林木之上，因以梵志爲名。其言雖鄙，其理歸真，所謂歸真悟道，徇俗乖真也。」○王維《與胡居士皆病寄此詩兼示學人詩二首》，註云：「梵志體。」
