杜審言，字必簡，襄陽人。善五言詩，工書翰，少與李嶠、崔融、蘇味道爲文章四友，擢進士第，爲隰城尉。性矜誕，嘗語人曰：“吾文章合得屈、宋作衙官，吾之書跡合得王羲之北面。”累轉洛陽丞，坐事貶吉州司戶參軍，尋免歸，武后召見，令賦《歡喜詩》，甚見嘉賞，授著作郎，遷膳部員外郎。神龍中，坐交張易之兄弟，流峯州，尋入爲國子監主簿、修文館直學士卒。有文集十卷，今編詩一卷。
