李益，字君虞，姑臧人。大曆四年登進士第，授鄭縣尉，久不調。益不得意，北遊河朔，幽州劉濟辟爲從事，嘗與濟詩，有怨望語。憲宗時，召爲祕書少監、集賢殿學士，自負才地，多所凌忽，爲衆不容。諫官舉其幽州詩句，降居散秩。俄復用爲祕書監，遷太子賓客、集賢學士、判院事，轉右散騎常侍。太和初，以禮部尚書致仕卒。益長於歌詩，貞元末，與宗人李賀齊名，每作一篇，教坊樂人以賂求取，唱爲供奉歌辭。其《征人歌》、《早行篇》，好事畫爲屏障。集一卷，今編詩二卷。
