李德裕，字文饒，趙郡人，宰相吉甫子也。以蔭補校書郎，拜監察御史。穆宗即位，擢翰林學士，再進中書舍人。未幾，授御史中丞。牛僧孺、李宗閔追怨吉甫，出德裕爲浙江觀察使。太和三年，召拜兵部侍郎，宗閔秉政，復出爲鄭滑節度使。踰年，徙劒南西川，以兵部尚書召。俄拜中書門下平章事，封贊皇縣伯。宗閔罷，代爲中書侍郎、集賢殿大學士。鄭注、李訓怨之，乃召宗閔，拜德裕爲興元節度使。入見帝，自陳願留闕下，復拜兵部尚書。爲王璠、李漢所譖，貶太子賓客，分司東都，再貶袁州刺史，未幾徙滁州。開成初，起爲浙西觀察使，遷淮南節度使。武宗立，召爲門下侍郎，同中書門下平章事，拜太尉，封衛國公。當國凡六年，威名獨重於時。宣宗即位，罷爲荆南節度使，白敏中、令狐綯使黨人搆之，貶崖州司戶參軍卒。德裕少力學，善爲文，雖在大位，手不去書。《會昌一品集》二十卷，別集十卷，外集四卷，今編詩一卷。
