房琯，字次律，河南人，則天時平章事融之子，以門蔭補弘文生。開元中，明皇將封岱岳，琯撰封禪書以獻。張說奇其才，授祕書省校書郎，又應堪任縣令舉，爲盧氏令，尋拜監察御史。天寶初，遷主客員外，累憲部侍郎。明皇幸蜀，琯獨馳赴行在，上大悅，即日拜文部尚書，同平章事。與左相韋見素等奉冊靈武，因陳時事，言詞慷慨，肅宗爲之改容，詔持節充招討節度等使。後爲賀蘭進明所搆，罷相，尋貶邠州刺史。詩一首。
